AMD (NYSE: AMD) is the customer-centric innovation company, a processing powerhouse that offers smarter choices for its customers and makes technology more accessible to the world. AMD is focused on best meeting the needs of leading computing, wireless and consumer electronics companies to help them deliver high-performance, energy-efficient and visually realistic solutions.
Since the beginning, AMD has been steadily bringing innovation after innovation to the computing market. These include technological quantum leaps that changed the dynamics of the computing industry, such as AMD64 technology, Direct Connect Architecture, and our pioneering work in energy-efficient processing. But we’ve also transformed an approach to innovation itself. By making our customers and their needs the guideposts for our product development, our business model, and our culture, we ensure that the technologies we introduce are relevant to our customers and our technology partners. We call this customer-centric innovation, and it’s at the center of everything we do.
And now, we are pushing further. With widely expanded capabilities, we are now the new AMD—a processing solutions powerhouse. Together with our industry partners in computing, mobile handheld, and consumer electronics, we’re working to create smarter choices for customers. From high-performance computing to wireless handsets to HD digital video, AMD is inspiring the technology products of the future.
Ushering in the visualization era
More and more technology today is measured by the richness of its visuals. An example of this trend is Windows Vista,® which is setting an entirely new standard for visual computing. As a strategic technology partner, AMD worked closely with Microsoft throughout the process of bringing Windows Vista to market. Microsoft relied on AMD technology to develop Windows Vista and worked closely with ATI in the development of DirectX® 10, next-generation graphics technology exclusive to Windows Vista.
Beyond the PC, the mobile phone has evolved from a simple wireless communication device to a robust appliance for gaming, communications, and digital media. AMD is a leader in this richly visual area, with more than 200 million AMD Imageon™ media processors shipped to handheld device manufacturers since 2003. Today, more than 50 AMD-powered mobile phone models are available from leading manufacturers including HTC, LG, Motorola, and Samsung.
With our expanded capabilities, the new AMD is especially well positioned to deliver the ultimate visual experience—from PCs to handhelds to digital televisions.

Driving the energy-efficient agenda
According to a recent study, aggregate electrical use for servers worldwide doubled from 60 billion kilowatts per year in 2000 to 120 billion in 2005. Since the computing industry simply can’t sustain this level of energy consumption, the demand for energy-efficient processing is growing. AMD leads the industry in delivering performance-per-watt through energy-efficient products and solutions.
In addition to our award-winning features such as AMD PowerNow!™ technology and Cool‘n’Quiet™ technology, we’re introducing groundbreaking new solutions including AMD CoolCore™ technology in the Third-Generation AMD Opteron™ processor and our DTX specification for small form factor desktops. Our future plans include continuing to expand energy-efficient capabilities for the entire range of computing devices.
At AMD, we believe global climate protection is an important responsibility, and because of that, we are leading the industry toward more energy-efficient processing, from handhelds to the datacenter.
Commercial servers and workstations
In the enterprise, where technology is put to the toughest tests, AMD enables technology partners to deliver the platforms that companies depend on to simplify their IT and deploy a common architecture for easy long-term management.
AMD expects that the Third-Generation AMD Opteron™ processor, with a fundamentally enhanced architecture, will enable our hardware partners to build servers and workstations that offer significant jumps in performance, performance-per-watt, and virtualization—all while providing investment protection and delivering improved total cost of ownership.
Plus, with FireGL™ workstation graphics boards, DirectX® 10- and OpenGL 2.1-based professional applications are accelerated, resulting in increased performance of more than 300 percent as compared to previous processors.
This product is positioned to be the x86 quad-core industry leader, reaffirming what our industry partners and their customers have come to know—that the AMD Opteron processor delivers the real processor performance enterprises need for business-critical servers.
